Liv Drink Desgin

Marketing towards “creative” people Liv Drink (derived from Living Water) would be an outward expression of how the drinker was a little more “individual & unique” from the normal crowd. They like to feel and look healthy. They are environmentaly concious and buy things on impulse because they are Green, but may have never planted a tree or started a compost in their life. 3 bottles in the four pack would have a unique design that are loosely related to each other accompanied by a fourth blank bottle for the purchaser to customize for them selves.

The box reads
Growth

Blank Bottle Included
Here at Liv™ we understand the importance of creativity in your daily routine, so we are giving you a chance to express your self with our refreshing products. In each case of Liv™ you three get different bottle designs and a fourth blank bottle for you to go crazy with. Send us your can in the mail and maybe will include it in our next release of Growth©, Move©, or Focus© water drinks.

return shipping address and directions on reverse side

This was the label art for the bottle

Here's a point of purchase end isle display baised on the concept of designing your own blank bottle. The refrigeration unit would be mad out of white board material and shaped like on of the blank bottles that comes in every four pack. There would be a rack of dry erase markers attached to the cooler for shoppers to get creative with and draw on the fridge.

Solas

Besides the "AIP" this was one of the most involved projects that I did all year.

Project Scope
“not a week day, a lifestyle”

The model customer

20-30 years of age.
Primarily Male
Urban
Attends church more than once a week
Has though seriously about ministry as a career
Likes to help others before they might help themselves
but enjoys being culturally relevant, clean, and hip.

With this project I would like to create a product aimed at a very distinct niche sub culture that has developed over the past ten-fifteen years, “Holy Hip Hop”. Holy Hip Hop is a subculture deriving from young urban adults who once fell into category of hip hop but now marry the visual and audible aesthetics associated with it to a sound Biblical faith in Jesus Christ, usually belonging to the Protestant Church. Taking my que from the music of this culture (as made evident in the audio mix I compiled named solasmix.mp3) I noticed a motif in the value and teaching of the five solas from the Protestant Church.

That motif will also be carried out in the sola's personal care product line with each peace focusing on one of the five supported by related Bible passages. The entire line will be sold as one high end package containing 6 items that can be ordered online. Four of the items in the package will be personal hygiene products (perfume, deodorant, body wash, and lotion), the fifth will be in a musical format contained on a usb hard-drive shaped like a bracelet. The sixth would be a five sola's t-shirt that is considered a gift with purchase that the customer will receive with their first order.

To address the customers desire to help others and justify their seemingly self-centered and slightly expensive purchase a second five sola's personal care kit will be shipped free of charge to a missions trip in a foreign country when ever any one orders one. The donated kit will help promote cleanliness in areas where personal hygiene may be an issue of concern.

Two single page adds to be placed sequentially in a magazine

T-shirt as featured in adds above

Two spread add designs also placed in sequence.
The first reads: Not a Week Day
The second reads: A Life Style

Completing the two part tag line from the secondary packaging.

Expose. Inspire. Create. Repeat.

I spent some time this year volunteering with this program and I felt it was very rewarding.

We’ve noticed a trend in the creative industry. And it isn’t a good one. To put it bluntly, there is a severe lack of diversity – which is not good for the creative economy. But we’re changing that. The OnRamp program brings creative organizations and high schools together in order to expose minority students to the breadth of jobs in the creative industry and inspire them to pursue a potential career.

OnRamp provides these students with the opportunity to shadow design professionals, tour creative facilities, participate in learning modules and complete a project that requires hands-on creative work. Giving them an understanding of the creative opportunities in both traditional and new media. And a chance to explore often unknown possibilities.

LIGHT ARITST JENS HELNEN

From the site of Jens Heinen:

this is the first test of the new “lightprinter”. I made for Lichtfaktor.

With the “lightprinter” we are able to paint logos, words and patterns, just like they are printed in the air, this is the next step in “lightwriting”.

I created it using the Arduino Board. There are 40 LEDs which can be controlled with a software I made in Processing.

Speed and brightness of the LEDs can be controlled.

Creative Fusion 09'

Miad asked me to do an update on my "professional" life since I spoke at CF 08.

If you didn't know Creative fusion is a fundraiser at miad where donated works of art are auctioned off for scholarship money.
Milwaukee's most extraordinary celebration of fine art and design returned for a third year on Saturday, May 2, 2009, 6:30 p.m.

Creative Fusion: "Sculpting Talent, Designing the Future" was hosted at MIAD by:

Jessie & Jason Allen, Cherie & Steve Barth, Kim & Marc Marotta, Tracy & Jay Rothman

Here's what they put in the program. The kinda edited the first half and left the last paragraph the way I wrote it.

Risa Graduated!!!!

The ceremony was at Centennial Hall today and it was great.

It was a great feeling watching Risa Cross the stage today. It means a lot to both her family and I to see her make it. It shows how strong she is.

However, the honorary graduate, Kenneth L. Leinbach, stole the show with his charismatic speech filled with giant blue whales and juggling kush ball people, *laughs at inside joke that no one else will get*

MIAD will confer an honorary doctorate on Kenneth L. Leinbach, executive director of Milwaukee's Urban Ecology Center, at its commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 9.

“A luminary in the Milwaukee community, Mr. Leinbach is being honored for his leadership role in community-based environmental education, which has been nationally recognized and is being modeled in cities around the United States,” said MIAD President Neil Hoffman.

Leinbach led the community effort to build the Urban Ecology Center from an old trailer in an abandoned city park into a state-of the art green community center that annually serves approximately 70,000 visitors of all ages.

The Eastside Center provides consistent contact to natural land for thousands of central city students. Its multi-faceted indoor and outdoor resources include a college-level field research station and grade-school outdoor classroom that has become an environmental education tool for urban revitalization.

MIAD students are deeply engaged with the center and its mission through the college’s Service Learning Program and have made it their number one choice for fulfilling their community service requirement. The center is also a vital part of the college’s honoring of Earth Week.

From MIAD.edu

Lisa and Risa met up with Ken at the reception and exchanged cards. I hope some beautiful work can spring from that new relationship

Design Bloopers

Can you spot whats wrong here?

So, while I was volunteering with the Onramp kids I picked up this Print magazine and started flipping through it and I came across this ad for a cintique. I noticed something was a little off so I did a double take and saw this

2 PENS FOR THE PRICE OF 1 LOL!
Looks like some one left a photoshop layer on that wasn't supposed to be there. Now there are two pens instead of one and it ended up in the magazine too. Bet you some one got fired for that.

Public Art

Found this over on first street up the way from Altera.

It seemed to just pop up out of no where earlier this week. A beautiful array of painted wooden sculptures create a fuax white wall with splashes of warm color when viewed from the south. i think its a great visual treatment for the space but i'm mad nobody from MIAD did it first.

This is part of another instillation just down the street. I liked it, but only enough to snap 3 photos of it. Here's one.

Risa's Identity for thesis

It was a lot of long hard work helping Risa get all this stuff done for her thesis. I was up all night just as much as any of the seniors getting ready for the show. But I think things turned out fine.

I figured giving Risa a good identity for her thesis could help launch her career as a portrait artist and illustrator so what a few weeks of stress?

I'm going to post about her show too once I finish some more homework.

The Man

This weeks service learning journal

The Man that so many people speak of can be more accurately described as a set of cyclic and problematic systems established in a racist American past. The title we give this machine factory of inequality is a misnomer because there are many men, women, and children who are involved with it. Willfully or in ignorance, many of us play rolls in these deeply rooted systems perpetuating the ideologies of white supremacy and the result of white privilege. I couldn't get past the first line of the Invisible Backpack with out stumbling across evidence of this scenario in the authors life.

"I was taught to see racism only in individual acts of meanness, not in invisible systems conferring dominance on my group"

"The Man" taught this woman that racism and racial suppression was unique, confined and individual. It may be real. It may be wrong, but it wasn't pandemic. Thinking like this can pull a wool over the eyes of many rational people and hide the ugly truth of America's administrative failures on the behalf of the impoverished and non white. Which in turn slows the progression of removing those unbalanced systems, continuing the racial suppression of many.
